This family beach house on the rugged West Coast of Cape Town has been owned by the same family for decades. It enjoys an enviable ocean-front location however needed a major overhaul to update it. The owners wanted an easy-going but beautiful space that is easy-to-maintain, lovely to look at but tough enough to withstand the wear-and-tear of kids, pets and holiday living. The outdated exterior was given a fresh look with white ship lap cladding and all new windows. Inside, hard-wearing screeded floors makes cleaning up after wet, sandy feet easy while a monochromatic palette and tactile elements like soft hemp carpets, sheepskins, cottons and linens add to the feeling of a calm, contained space perfect for relaxing and reviving mind, body and soul.
