Renovate an outdated Art Deco city home to create a fun, beautiful space for a growing young family.
DESIGN:
Respecting the heritage of this period home was important yet we wanted it to still feel modern and exciting through the use of bold colours, graphic pattern and print and statement pieces. As very few of the client’s Wishlist items were available in South Africa at that time, we were given the go-ahead to get creative and resourceful: graphic Moroccan tiles were sourced and imported from Argentina, modernist ceiling pendants were re-imagined as quirky wall lights, the wallpaper for the oversized playroom was brought in from Paris, and so on. Most importantly, however, we worked to create flexible spaces that would adapt over time as their young brood grew from babies into toddlers and teenagers.
